Year 5 Curriculum 2022-2023

Our Year 5 curriculum has developed from thoughtful reflection about children’s experiences at St George's School, our understanding of how children learn and a desire for children to both enjoy their experience at our school and to feel challenged and excited. The curriculum is bespoke and has been written by our Year 5 team and Subject Leader's. It was updated in 2022 to reflect our changing community , children's interest and to ensure learning is deep and embeded over each child's learning journey at St George's Primary. In the Autumn Term our learning theme is: 'Troubled Shores' and 'Ultimate Explorers.' We then move onto Stories from other culures and 'Out of the this world' in the Spring Term. During the Summer term our theme is 'The Anglo-Saxons' and 'The Highway Man.'

Year 5 Homework

Your child will be given weekly spelling homework. They will have a weekly talk homework to complete with you, this will support their weekly 'Write to the top' independent writing lesson. In Year 5, children will also bring home CGP books to complete Maths and Grammar homework, this will be set by the Teacher. You will recieve a school Ping with the page numbers and the children will also record these each week. At St George's Primary school, children read at home five times a week and in Year 5 we kindly ask that you sign your child's reading diary to show that they have met this.

We are loving our Gymnastic unit this term!
